Julie found her calling of helping individuals with disabilities when she joined her local chapter of Best Buddies during her freshman year of high school. Since then she has worked various roles ranging from personal care attendant, student clinician, speech-language pathologist, small business owner, and AAC specialist. Her current role of augmentative communication consultant allows her the flexibility to meet families where they’re at and provide the guidance and support needed to help their children succeed. She specializes in pediatric communication disorders but provides services to individuals beyond the age of 18.
She earned her Bachelors of Special Education with a concentration in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a minor in Psychology from Bridgewater State University in 2013. She then went on to earn her Masters of Speech-Language Pathology from Worcester State University in 2015. Since then, she has acquired her Assistive Technology Specialist certification from California State University and considers herself a life long learner.
Julie has over ten years of experience working in the public school, collaborative, and private practice settings. Her experience extends across autism spectrum disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, chromosomal disorders, global developmental delay, mixed receptive-expressive language disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and many other disorders. She specializes in determination and acquisition of speech-generating devices to support severe communication disorders.
She is well versed in a variety of communication apps such as TouchChat with WordPower, LAMP Words for Life, TD Snap, Proloquo2Go, Proloquo4Text, SpeakForYourself and GoTalkNow. She is a certified TouchChat Trainer but carries no financial relationship with any vendor.
When not working at her position as AAC Specialist in the public school system, Julie enjoys spending time with her family, going for walks with her dog Gracie, and practicing yoga/pilates.
